Okay here is the slide show from Olvera Street...finally! I had to select these 50 from about 450 photos. I hope you enjoy it! I have not sorted out the video yet--one thing at a time.

Is your pet a blessing? Olvera Street and other musings...

Leaving town for a few days always takes its toll as I try and catch up. I have the video and photos now downloaded for you but still have to edit and get them up for you. I did post a short teaser over at http://www.arkanimals.com if you want to read and take a quick look.

In the meantime, here is a nice slideshow by one of the photographers who was next to me at the blessing of the animals. If you watch, you can see me in my safari hat in the picture the photographer took behind Cardinal Mahony.

I saw my buddy from last year--she just rescued a new dog and was very excited.

Also, I got to view the Haute Dog parade on Sunday. Sid, the great Queensland Heeler was noticeably absent--his mom shared that he passed away from complications from liver cancer only a couple of weeks ago.

Stay tuned for the video and photos--I promise to get them to you!

Olvera Street's Blessing of the Animals 2008

I am off to Olvera Street for the Blessing of the Animals...I am not going to be high profile just there to enjoy the day and take some photos this time. If you are headed that way drop me a line...for your enjoyment, here is a slide show with some of the photos I took last year.

St Patrick's Day Pet Prayer

Last year I did a St Patrick's Day blessing live on the air on a nationally syndicated radio show. Some of you were not readers then--so here it is again--plus a favorite St Patrick's Day video.

Saint Patrick's Day Pet Prayer

Copyright 2007 by Diana L Guerrero. All rights reserved. May not be published elsewhere without permission.

Picture your cherished pet in your mind or hold your pet close.

Beloved Spirit everywhere present, we gather together today to ask for a blessing.

We give thanks for the life we enjoy and for the element, plants, and animals that are part of our daily existence.

We send thanks to our companion animals, domestic livestock, and pets.

On St Patrick’s Day we ask this blessing for our animals:

May your lives be filled with comfort and joy.

May your coats stay shining, your noses stay cold, and please may your breath stay sweet!

May the sun keep your warm when it is cold--and may the wind keep you cool when it is hot.

May each and every day be filled with adventure and be void of any woes.

May you always put a smile on the face of everyone you meet.

May your antics amuse and warm the hearts of all the humans you encounter.

May your friends be plentiful and your fleas be few.

May your owners always greet you, with a treat and a pat on the head.

May your bed remain warm, your food bowl stay full, and may you live a long and healthy life.

As your faithful owner indulges you, may God hold you close.

May we live in harmony with one another, and may this blessing be carried to animals everywhere.

Blessings to you all.

Record Pet Wedding?

I had a flash during my shower this morning--I am heading in a new direction with my business and new thoughts are hitting me on a regular basis--you see, I've been working with animals for over 30 years and it is time for a change...basically I want to do something more fun.

Anyway, the flash concerned pet weddings so in a phone conversation a little later, my girlfriend (aka adopted sister) informed me that a new record for pet weddings had just been set in Littleton, Colorado.

Alas, I had to tell her that the "new" event she had discovered actually took place in May of 2007 to win the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest pet wedding. You can view a picture at the Littleton, Colorado pet wedding or take a gander at this press release about that Aspen Grove pet wedding event at Pet Style Magazine.

If you are so inclined take a gander at the pages of public comments about the pet wedding in Colorado.

I believe this is the official pet wedding video taken at Aspen Grove:

Here is video during taken during the event (the volume is loud):

Seven Foot Wave (music group) did a video for their song, Jump into This featuring a dog wedding.

Wonder if I should have felt slighted that I wasn't invited...

Nicaraguan Celebration: Blessing of the Animals

Now I didn't know about this blessing of the animals celebration in Nicaragua--and thought you might find it interesting...not a long article but just another testimony to how blessing of the animals events are universal!

Barking up the wrong tree?: Pet Parties & Bark Miztvahs

Recently another synagogue held a brotherhood bark mitzvah.

Now in the news, animal blessings are still sweeping the nation but some people are not too happy or comfortable with the focus on such activities such as pet birthday parties. In fact, one person calls people who hold pet parties "psycho pet lovers."

Personally, I think she is just aiming for a reaction because pets don't tend to roll under tables in their poop!

So, do you hold pet parties? Leave your comment below.

Diamond Dogs at Three Dog Bakery

Hi, sorry to be so scarce but I've had some trauma due to loss the past few weeks. I am still moving my main website but anticipate posting more regularly again in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, check out this article in the Los Angeles Times (also a video) about Diamond Dogs--meaning spending on upscale pet products for pets.
